Park Services Attendant

The Position

The Park District is currently recruiting for Park Service Attendants. There is currently one vacancy at Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore, CA. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies as well as any additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
Under supervision, provides varied visitor services; collects visitor fees and charges; performs unskilled maintenance within the immediate area of a kiosk; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Performs visitor services
  • Provides information and directions
  • Answers phones
  • Responds to complaints
  • Collects appropriate fees
  • Sells memberships, bait, and tackle
  • Registers campers
  • Maintains professional relations and communications with crews, supervisors, East Bay Regional Park District (Park District) staff, concessionaires, tenants and other agencies
  • Assists with special events and reservations groups
  • Completes daily and monthly revenue reports
  • Balances cash and prepares bank deposit slips
  • Keeps various logs, such as, daily logs, number of visitors, and campground usage
  • Supports Park District staff in responding to emergencies such as medical events, searches, park fires, and other requests for aid
  • Operates radios to provide and coordinate information
  • Provides traffic control
  • Completes medical/incident reports
  • Performs routine maintenance work including picking up and removing litter, cleaning and stocking restrooms, emptying garbage cans and changing trash liners, and removing graffiti within the kiosk area
  • Opens parks
  • Posts emergency signs as directed
  • Protects natural resources including recognizing and protecting plant life, wildlife, artifacts and structures
  • Assists with removing exotic and non-native plants within the kiosk area
  • Operates Park District vehicles and checks fluids, tires and belts
  • May perform watercraft and trailer inspections
  • And update the inspection database
  • Tracks volunteer hours and maintains paperwork
  • May perform additional maintenance activities requiring lifting as needed
  • Maintains automatic pay station including troubleshooting maintenance issues, performing audit reports and restocking the machines
  • Creates, edits and revises various documents and spreadsheets
  • Maintains stock of brochures, program flyers and other promotional materials
  • Oversees lost and found
  • May train other staff in customer service, cash handling and cash balancing
  • Monitors contractors, vendors, work crews, other Park District departments and outside agencies entering the regional parks and communicates irregular activity
  • Removes hazards and invasive plants
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications



Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade,
AND
Experience: Six (6) months of paid experience, demonstrating the ability to handle cash and provide quality customer service,
AND
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must pass a Level 1 background check.
  • Must wear a Park District uniform.
  • May be required to work unusual hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

UNION AFFILIATION: AFSCME
East Bay Regional Parks Employees, Local 2428, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, represents this classification. Wages, hours, and other terms of conditions of employment are covered in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Park District and Local 2428. The probationary period for this classification is nine (9) months.

Internal Promotions: Placement shall be made at the first step in the salary range for the new position (Step A) unless the salary rate at Step A of the new position is less than a 5% increase. In such instances, the employee will be placed at a step in the new salary range that ensures at least a 5% increase.
