SUMMARY
Under indirect supervision, this position is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled labor for the Parks and Recreation grounds and facilities. Duties include general landscaping on park grounds and repair and maintenance to park facilities and assisting the Foreperson with instructing and supervising utilities workers on an occasional basis and seasonal crews on a seasonal basis.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs maintenance and repairs to park grounds and facilities.
  • Operates heavy equipment.
  • Operates tractors to renovate, level, top dress and mow.
  • Plants, prunes and fertilizes trees and shrubs.
  • Repairs and installs irrigation systems.
  • Assists Foreperson with training new employees.
  • Performs routine snow and ice removal.
  • Empties trash weekly.
  • Maintains detailed cost, tasks and spray records.
  • Operates pay loader and backhoe.
  • Performs minor welding repairs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience with at least completion of the eighth (8th) grade. A minimum of one year of related experience. Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required. Must be able to acquire a TDA Chemical Applicator’s License within 270 days of accepting this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
  • Ability to operate and repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to work in undesirable conditions and inclement weather.
