Parks Maintenance Worker-Grounds Maintenance

Position Overview:

The Parks Maintenance Worker -Grounds Maintenance is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic appeal of public spaces within the city, including parks, streets, and recreational areas. This position involves performing landscaping tasks to enhance the visual appeal of city landscapes and ensuring cleanliness through the collection and disposal of litter and trash. The individual will work collaboratively with other city workers and under the supervision of the Public Works Director.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Landscaping:

· Perform various landscaping tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming, and weeding to maintain the overall appearance of city streets, parks, and public areas.

· Plant and cultivate flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the aesthetic appeal of designated areas.

· Remove weeds, leaves, and debris from walkways

2. Trash Collection:

· Conduct routine patrols of city streets, parks, and public spaces to identify and collect litter and trash.

· Empty trash receptacles throughout the city, ensuring that waste is properly disposed of, and containers are clean.

3. Street Cleaning:

· Participate in street cleaning activities, including sidewalks, and removing debris to enhance the cleanliness of public walkways.

4. Safety Compliance:

· Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures while performing landscaping and trash pick-up duties.

· Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and operate equipment safely.

5. Equipment Operation:

· Operate landscaping equipment, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and blowers, ensuring proper use and maintenance.

· Use specialized equipment for efficient trash collection, including trash grabbers and collection bins.

6. Team Collaboration:

· Collaborate with other Department staff to coordinate landscaping and maintenance activities.

· Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to address any issues or concerns related to landscaping or trash pick-up.

7. Event Support:

· Assist in setting up and maintaining landscaping for special events or gatherings held in the city.

· Ensure that event areas are restored to their original condition promptly.

8. Record Keeping:

· Maintain accurate records of daily landscaping and trash pick-up activities, including areas covered, quantity of trash collected, and landscaping tasks performed.

· Report any hazardous materials or unusual items found during trash pick-up to the supervisor.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Previous experience in landscaping or maintenance work is preferred.

· Ability to operate landscaping equipment and perform physically demanding tasks.

· Basic knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.

· Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

· Valid driver’s license required.
