Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Front Desk Attendant provides information to the public regarding the City of Bryan’s Parks and Recreation Department’s available facilities, activities, and programs.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides information and assistance to the general public by phone or in person regarding parks and recreation facilities, programs, and activities.
- Schedules the use and reservations of all City recreational facilities and park amenities.
- Records and processes fees involving park and facility reservations, course registrations, and permits; accounts for all existing working cash assigned and revenues generated during scheduled shifts.
- Educates customers on facility use rules and regulations; ensures adherence to rules and safety procedures,
- Resolves routine problems or complaints regarding recreational services or programs.
- Completes all required reports and records accurately and on schedule; submits/deposits to the proper person or office.
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the phone, typing correspondence/data entry, running errands, and maintaining files and records.
- Maintains a clean and neat workspace.
- Responds quickly to all emergency situations as needed.
- Reports for duty at the times specified and ensures a high standard of personal presentation and appearance is maintained per policy.
- Attends mandatory training, orientations, and other staff meetings as scheduled.
- Adheres to the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the City of Bryan and the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess at least 1 year of clerical or customer service-related experience.
- Must possess cash handling/balancing experience.

- Cash handling and balancing procedures.
- Customer service procedures and techniques.

- Learn department functions thoroughly to provide general information and explain detailed department processes and procedures.

- Tactfully respond to requests and inquiries from the general public by phone and in person.
- Perform basic clerical procedures such as collecting fees, keeping records, making reservations and answering questions.
- Perform simple mathematical calculations and make accurate and legible entries in books and records.
- Organize work for appropriate and timely completion.
- Work effectively as an individual and as a team member.
- Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent’s area of responsibility.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written, communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to respond to customer inquiries with tact and diplomacy.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, using hands and fingers to operate office equipment and machines, and occasionally lifting and/or moving objects up to and including 25 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting or a well-lighted and temperature-controlled working environment.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: multi-line telephone, computer, printer, fax, copier, scanner, calculator, and vehicle.
