As a Parks Supervisor at Skokie Park District, you'll be the go-to person for keeping our parks looking great and running smoothly. You'll make sure everything is clean, safe, and ready for our community to enjoy.
Key Responsibilities:
Plans, directs, trains, and supervises full-time and seasonal landscape and horticultural maintenance staff.
Maintains and approves accurate payroll and maintenance records.
Oversees the design, installation, and maintenance of all floral areas, sign beds, and shrub beds.
Develops and implements Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPM) and actively seeks out Best Management Practices in regards to green practices.
Responsible for integrated turf management program, including fertilization, aerification, pesticide application and irrigation systems including proper licensing and record keeping.
Responsible for forestry program including design, ordering, overseeing installation, care and record keeping.
Responsible for all park plans, blueprints, and construction records; updating of all plans and utility information; and the input and maintenance of all such records on the District's CAD system, tree inventory and GIS systems.
Hires seasonal staff and assists the Superintendent of Parks, Planning and Facilities in hiring full-time personnel.
Provides evaluations of seasonal and full-time staff; disciplines and takes other personnel actions as required.
Utilizes standards and safety guidelines as set forth in the Park Operations Manual for all work.
Assists the Superintendent of Parks, Planning and Facilities as needed on construction projects.
Supervises landscape construction projects which may include pavers and wall construction.
Works with Operation and Project Manager on all special events.
Oversees landscape waste recycling program.
Assigns and maintains inventory and has custody of tools, equipment, and supplies.
Assists in planning and implementing safety trainings. Establishes and maintains proper safety standards.
Serves on the District's Safety Committee.
Prepares grant proposals and administers awarded grants.
Assists with budgeting and procurement of equipment and supplies.
Coordinates snow removal operations on a rotational basis with the Operations and Project Manager.
Obtains and maintains inventory of road and sidewalk deicers and inti-icers for use in snow operations.
Assists in the implementation of the Adopt a Park program and commemorative tree and bench program.
Acts as the Skokie Park District liaison for the 4th of July committee.
Oversees and maintains the park district GIS tree inventory.
Responsible for trash management and recycling programs District-wide.
Coordinates with the Park Services Office Manager on shelter permits, special park permits and Park Services birthday party setups.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in park management, horticulture, or a related field is a plus.
Required Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in park maintenance or a related field.
Proven experience in supervising a team, preferably in a park or recreational setting.
Experience in budget management and resource allocation for park operations.
Familiarity with park equipment and maintenance procedures.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership skills to guide and motivate a diverse team.
Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, park visitors, and other stakeholders.
Ability to plan and organize tasks efficiently to ensure park areas are well-maintained and safe.
Good problem-solving skills to address any issues that arise in park operations.
Basic computer skills for managing schedules, reports, and communications.
A keen eye for detail to ensure the park is clean, safe, and welcoming.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Friendly and approachable demeanor to create a positive experience for park visitors.
** This job falls in paygrade FT12. The target hiring range for this position is beginning at $92,000 - $97,000 per year depending on qualifications.
