Part Time Development Specialist

Employment Type: Part-Time (Approximately 20 hours/week, flexible)

Reports To: Co-Directors

Position Summary:

StoryCenter seeks an experienced, mission-aligned, seasoned Development Specialist to ensure the organization advances towards its fundraising and growth goals. This individual will lead development efforts, including donor relations, grant writing, and fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the Co-Directors.

The ideal candidate is experienced with non-profits dedicated to the humanities and social change, and they are knowledgeable about the development environment. They will be expected to work independently to identify strategic opportunities and creative solutions to problems. This person values personal storytelling and creative media-making as tools for connection, equity, and social impact, and can translate that vision into sustainable infrastructure and funding.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Fundraising

  • Co-create, with the co-directors, a development and annual fundraising plan
  • Develop relationships with potential grantors
  • Identify potential grantors, draft, and submit grant proposals; manage grant reporting
  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns and events
  • Maintain donor database and track contributions
  • Integrate donor communications into our larger outward facing communication strategy

Strategy & Leadership

  • Collaborate with leadership on strategic plan implementation and organizational growth strategies
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, funding, and program expansion
  • Represent the organization in community and stakeholder meetings as needed

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in nonprofit operations, development, or related field
  • Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with common tools (e.g., Google Workspace, CRM systems, fundraising platforms)
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • Passion for the organization’s mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a small nonprofit environment
  • Financial management or bookkeeping experience

Compensation

  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience (Please include in cover letter)
