Description
The Commercial Industrial HVAC/R Technology Instructor is responsible for classroom and lab instruction for the Workforce and Economic Development Center (WEDC) short-term HVAC/R Technology program and assists in updating current curriculum; providing quality instruction for a diverse student population; performing instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, core values, policies and procedures of the College.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned Commercial Industrial HVAC/R program competencies and associated labs in accordance with the WEDC’s schedule; maintains written instructional standards; facilitates instruction using alternative delivery methods as needed; maintains inventory of consumable supplies and educational materials, establishes, maintains and submits accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.
- Ability to teach all HVAC/R competencies within the program, including but not limited tosafety, systems servicing and troubleshooting, ventilation, controls of HVAC, load calculations, commercial refrigeration, systems installation and start up, heat pump systems, and air conditioning systems and other related processes and skills as required by the curriculum.
- Assists in the preparation of course proposals, curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, and laboratories for the Commercial Industrial HVAC/R program; assists with curriculum updates.
- Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes as necessary to maintain a successful Commercial Industrial HVAC/R program; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, and integrates knowledge of customers, competitors, other industries, industry groups, and professional training to continuously improve program quality;
- Assists in the management of the HVAC/R Technology program; maintains equipment and supply inventory

- Prior teaching/training experience in the related field;
- Skill in instructing students from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds;
- Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students’ needs and progress; and
- Skill in integrating technology into curriculum and other educational services.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- 3 years or more experience in HVAC/R Technology
- A college degree is NOT required
- Current job specific credentials or certification preferred

- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Conditions may require walking, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, heavy lifting (less than or equal to 50 pounds), high climbing, bending, working in awkward positions handling equipment and materials.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
- The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
