University Communications and Marketing, which includes the University Events team, provides strategic leadership to protect, advance, and elevate the university's brand and reputation in Indiana and around the world by creating guiding resources for and collaborating with communications and marketing partners across all IU campuses, schools, departments, and centers. The University Events team strives to create world-class events and experiences for Indiana University (IU).

Job Summary

University Events is seeking a student intern looking to gain experience within the marketing and communications career field. Student interns will gain exposure and knowledge of a variety of mediums including electronic and print materials, websites and social media and multiple related software. Student interns will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects communications and marketing efforts for promoting and supporting events.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists the Communications Team with the development and distribution of electronic and print communications, mainly emails using Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Develops and manages constituent lists for email communications and surveys following specified formatting and guidelines.
  • Assists with maintenance of content and visual revisions on multiple websites using web content management software.
  • Assists in the development of strategic schedules for email and social media promotions for events, including creation of social media assets.
  • Conducts some writing, proofreading and editing support for various communications and projects. Contributes to the overall event promotion process by maintaining various documents, organization of data, and use of other supporting software.
  • Works with a multi-faceted team, including event planning leads, technical directors, and other marketing and communications professionals.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.

Preferred

  • Pursuing a major in any field, but with interest in exploring marketing and communications.

SKILLS

Required

  • Proficient communications skills.
  • Ability to plan and schedule tasks effectively, arrange workload to get desired results, allow flexibility in planning to accommodate changing needs, and adapt well in unexpected occurrences.
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills.
  • Desire to take advantage of and seek out learning opportunities to gain insight and experience. Ability to accept direction and feedback and grow from it.
  • Desire to learn about marketing and communications for event promotion and support.
  • Ability to maintain a professional presence and demeanor, respecting the need for confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and ability to learn multiple supporting software programs.

Working Conditions / Demands

This position is required to work most hours in-person in an office setting. Some tasks can be completed in a remote setting as arranged through a supervisor. This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

Candidates should expect the position to begin in July or August, dependent on availability.

Advertised Salary

$15.00 per hour

Work Hours

May occasionally work up to 40 hours per week as needed.

Must be available to occasionally work evenings and weekends, as event support is necessary.
