Part Time MECKSuccess Education & Career Navigator -Applied Programs

General Function

This role supports Mecklenburg County Department of Community Resources (DCR) MECKSuccess participants in defining their career paths and then pursuing training and education opportunities at Central Piedmont and enrolling in selected courses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting participants to define their career paths and identifying community college programs and/or training that meets their career goals.
  • Serve as liaison to Mecklenburg County DCR and Central Piedmont to collaborate and share best practices for upskilling and reskilling employees.
  • Advise and counsel students in developing career and academic plans; explain policies, application procedures, and program enrollment requirements.
  • Maintain high-quality and professional partnerships with county DCR employees and share informational material on educational opportunities and course schedules.
  • Consult with students regarding academic problems or concerns and assist students in overcoming barriers and connecting with support to meet specific needs such as Career Services, Single Stop, Libraries, Tutoring, Mentoring, Counseling, and more.
  • Utilize Datatel, Watermark, and other software in monitoring, assessing, collecting, and reporting data.
  • Facilitate workplace readiness workshops for participants.
  • Provide career navigation and coaching services to MECKSuccess participants in various industries and occupations.
  • Create and implement information sessions and 1 on 1 meetings to generate interest and provide information about Central Piedmont programs. Attend events, open houses, and other community events to promote education and training opportunities, raise career awareness and assist in enrollment in Central Piedmont programs.
  • Assist with enrollment steps including application, RDS, Financial Aid, Advising, and college course registration.
  • Leverage workforce development and labor market resources, such as O*Net, Charlotte Works, and NCCareers.org to support participants’ efforts to select a career pathway in collaboration with MECKSuccess guidelines.
  • Follow a communication plan to ensure consistent communication with participants and DCR partner employees.
  • Maintain accurate and adequate records. Track and report semester to semester completion and student status.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and one year of experience in student coaching, counseling, academic advising, or workforce development

or

Associate degree and three years of experience in student coaching, counseling, workforce development, or academic advising

Working Conditions:
This role will work in Mecklenburg County facilities including Community Resource Centers and on Central Piedmont campuses.
