A Library Specialist is expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas.</p></div><br>

<div><p>I. Mastery of Subject Matter<br>
a. Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of an area of specialization within the field of<br>
library and information science. Areas of specialization may include interlibrary loan, library<br>
equipment, or archival practices.<br>
b. Stays current in the subject matter through professional development, through involvement in<br>
professional and paraprofessional organizations, interlibrary organizations, and attending<br>
professional and paraprofessional meetings, conferences or workshops.<br>
c. Demonstrates strong technology skills in MS Office systems, library operating systems such as<br>
circulation and reserves, and web-based technologies.<br>

II. Functional Area of Specialty<br>
a. Interprets and implements library policy and procedure.<br>
b. Manages daily processes within functional area.<br>
c. Gathers data and maintains current statistics for functional area.<br>
d. Markets and promotes library resources and services within area of specialty.<br>
e. Plans, organizes, and manages assigned projects.<br>
f. Assists librarians in management and administrative processes within area of specialty.<br>
g. Troubleshoots software and hardware issues<br>

III. Public Service Responsibilities<br>
a. Demonstrates knowledge of print and electronic information resources.<br>
b. Provides high-quality reference services to students, faculty, and staff; assists patrons by handling<br>
basic inquiries, requests, and projects requiring independent judgment and basic knowledge in<br>
interpreting policies and procedures.<br>
c. Provides accurate and timely interlibrary loan services to students, faculty and staff.<br>
d. Provides assistance in the library&rsquo;s makerspace.<br>
e. Provides research assistance in the archives<br>
f. Trains students, faculty, and staff in the use of library equipment and resources.<br>
g. Establishes working knowledge of all public service points, including library makerspace.<br>

This is a seasonal position from June 22nd- Aug. 6th, 2026. Assistant is asked to be available the entire 7 weeks.</b><p><b><br>
General Function:</b></p><p>
The Lab Assistant supports the delivery of youth enrichment programs during the Fall, Spring, &amp;/or Summer session. This position assists instructors with classroom activities, helps facilitate a safe and engaging learning environment, and provides general administrative and operational support to ensure program success.</p><i>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Duties and Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Engage students in a fun and positive manner</li><li>Assists with administrative preparation of camps</li><li>Organize student information and maintain accurate records for each camp session</li><li>Track dietary restrictions and allergies to ensure safety</li><li>Keep inventory of materials and supplies and clearly communicate the need for additional purchases</li><li>Model professionalism and accountability by adhering to the dress code and college policies</li><li>Responsibility and supervision of students during drop-off, pick-up, and classroom/camp time</li><li>Willing and able to multi-task, be timely, and resolve conflicts as they arise</li><li>At ease with communicating with students, parents/caregivers, and faculty/staff in a professional manner</li><li>Required to complete the college&rsquo;s ongoing compliance training in a timely manner</li><li>Report any notable concerns or incidents to the Assistant Director or Executive Director respectively.</li><li>Additional duties as assigned</li></ul></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>High School Diploma or GED required; must be 18 years of age or older</li><li>Strong organization, planning and communication skills</li><li>Self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team</li><li>Ability and willingness to be committed to working scheduled camps</li><li>Dependable, approachable, patient, and sensitive to the needs of a diverse group of students</li><li>Ability to travel to Central Piedmont campuses with reliable transportation</li><li>Must be willing to conduct a background check</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication</li></ul><p><b>
Preferred Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>Experience working with youth and families from diverse and cultural backgrounds either in a similar or related capacity</li><li>CPR/Basic First Aid certification a plus</li></ul></div><p></p>

Working Conditions:</b></p><p>
Typical office/classroom/camp environment; frequently lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs.; frequently twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead; potential traveling between buildings on campus or to other campuses; infrequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, mouse and telephone.</p></div></div></div><p></p>
