Part-Time Resource Recovery (Green Waste) Facility Worker

The Bolinas Community Public Utility District (BCPUD) is a small, rural utility district serving the coastal community of Bolinas, California. In addition to providing water and wastewater services, the District operates a Resource Recovery (green waste) facility that supports sustainable waste management and serves the local community. BCPUD is seeking a reliable, motivated individual to assist with day-to-day operations at its Resource Recovery facility.

Position Overview

This is a part-time, non-benefited position supporting operations at the District’s green waste facility. The position works under the direction of the Resource Recovery Site Supervisor and reports to the Assistant General Manager.

This is a hands-on, field-based position involving customer interaction, manual labor, and general site maintenance. The position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, organized, and accessible facility for community use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with opening, operating, and closing the facility as assigned
  • Direct customers and assist with proper disposal of materials
  • Identify and sort incoming materials into designated categories
  • Maintain site cleanliness, organization, and general housekeeping
  • Assist with material handling, pile management, and composting operations
  • Operate mobile equipment, including front-end loaders, to move, organize, and manage material piles
  • Monitor site conditions and support safe operations for staff and the public
  • Assist with fee collection and basic recordkeeping as required
  • Perform general maintenance and related duties as assigned

Work Schedule

  • Part-time position averaging approximately 24 hours per week
  • Schedule is flexible based on facility operating days and District needs
  • May include weekends or designated public operating days

Compensation

  • $25.00 per hour
  • This is a non-exempt, at-will position eligible for overtime as applicable under federal and state law

Benefits

  • This is a part-time position and is not eligible for District medical or retirement benefits
  • Employees receive benefits required by law, including Social Security, Medicare, and Workers’ Compensation coverage

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Ability to perform physical outdoor work in varying conditions
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and the public
  • Experience operating light equipment, such as loaders, or the ability to learn safe equipment operation is desirable
  • Experience in maintenance, landscaping, or similar fieldwork is a plus

Housing

Please note that this is an in-person position. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult and costly to find housing in the Bay Area at this time.
