Job Title: Seasonal Shelver

Position Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Branch: Erlanger, 401 Kenton Lands Rd, Erlanger KY 41018

Pay Range: $10.00 - $13.80 per hour


Work Schedule: Part-time (20 hours/week), with a schedule that may include any day of the week, including days, evenings, weekends, and the holidays the Library is open.


This is a seasonal position that will begin in late April and conclude in early August.

At the Kenton County Public Library, we believe the heart of great library service starts with great people. The Kenton County Public Library is seeking a seasonal Shelver to help keep our library organized and welcoming. This position plays an important role in ensuring materials are shelved accurately and efficiently and providing basic assistance with locating items and using the library catalog. What You’ll Do

  • Sort and organize materials to be shelved (numerically and alphabetically) and load book carts.
  • Shelve books, media, and other materials in their correct locations.
  • Straighten and maintain shelves, ensuring materials are in proper order.
  • Clear materials from tables, shelves, and play areas and return them to their proper places.
  • Maintain familiarity with basic ILS functions and assist the Circulation Department with checking items in and out and various department functions.
  • Stay familiar with the KCPL website, including the catalog, events, and databases
  • Assist patrons with basic catalog or website use and help them locate materials, referring them to appropriate staff for further assistance when needed.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as needed to support department operations.

Qualifications Required

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to accurately shelve materials using alphabetic and Dewey Decimal systems.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs and move materials as needed.
  • Ability to push or pull loaded book carts weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, and stretch to retrieve and replace materials on shelves.
  • Basic computer literacy, including experience with Windows-based software, internet, and email; willingness to learn new technology and library systems.
