POSITION SUMMARY

The Part-Time Technical Coordinator provides hands-on technical and facilities support for productions and daily theatre operations at The Groundlings. Working under the direction of the Technical Production Manager, this role is responsible for maintaining technical equipment, supporting live performances, addressing general facility needs, and supporting set builds.

This is a highly collaborative, “boots-on-the-ground” position requiring a proactive, solutions-oriented individual who can respond quickly to evolving production demands in a fast-paced comedy theatre environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production & Technical Support:

■ Build, paint, modify, and strike simple scenic elements and prop pieces.

■ Assist with load-ins and load-outs for productions and special events.

■ Organize, track, and maintain inventory of technical assets (microphones, cables, lighting instruments, projectors, etc.).

■ Prepare and operate lighting, sound, projection, and playback equipment as needed.

■ Support live-streaming or recording setups for performances.

■ Assist with tech board operation during rehearsals or performances as assigned.

■ Help recruit, onboard, and train technical crew as needed.

■ Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on stage and technical equipment.

■ Respond promptly to last-minute technical issues during rehearsals or live shows.

Facilities Support:

■ Perform general facility repairs and ordering necessary supplies (patching walls, painting, replacing light bulbs, minor fixture repairs, etc.).

■ Maintaining grounds upkeep.

■ Assemble furniture and equipment for classrooms, offices, and theatre spaces.

■ Maintain workshop tools, inventory, and overall shop organization.

■ Research and source replacement parts, materials, and supplies.

■ Identify and escalate larger maintenance or safety concerns to the Technical Production Manager or external vendors.

General Theatre Support:

■ Maintain clean, organized theatre, stage, backstage, booth, and storage areas.

■ Assist with seasonal décor, lobby installations, and special creative projects.

■ Support day-to-day operational needs of theatre and school spaces.

■ Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

■ Demonstrated experience in carpentry, scenic construction, painting, or prop fabrication.

■ Experience supporting live theatre or live event production environments.

■ General facilities maintenance and repair experience.

■ Working knowledge of AV systems and basic troubleshooting.

■ Familiarity with theatrical lighting and sound board operation preferred.

■ Strong organizational skills and ability to manage inventory.

■ Ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively under time-sensitive conditions.

■ Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with production and administrative teams.

■ Reliable, flexible, and available to support shows that are mostly scheduled at night. Saturday availability is essential.

■ Available for occasional off-hours needs or production emergencies.

■ Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs for extended periods.

■ Ability to use hands and tools for carpentry, repairs, and equipment setup.

■ Ability to safely operate basic shop tools and equipment.

■ Ability to work on ladders and access overhead equipment.

■ Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

■ Ability to work in backstage, workshop, and low-light theatre environments.

■ Ability to respond quickly to urgent technical or facility-related issues.
