Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake breads, cakes, pastries, tarts, and other desserts
- Decorate desserts with precision and creativity
- Create chocolate, sugar, and other confections
- Follow recipes and portion control for consistency
- Manage inventory of ingredients and supplies
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in the kitchen
- Develop new dessert recipes and seasonal menu items
- Supervise junior pastry staff or assistants
Skills and Qualifications
- Expertise in baking and pastry techniques
- Knowledge of dessert presentation and decoration
- Understanding of ingredients, measurements, and food chemistry
- Creativity and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure in busy kitchen environments
- Food hygiene and safety knowledge (HACCP or local certification)
Work Environment
- Restaurants, hotels, bakeries, patisseries, catering companies
- Indoor kitchen environments, often standing long hours
- May involve early mornings or shift work
