Patent Agent

Reports To: Agent Group Leader

Summary Description: The Patent Agent I assists patent attorneys with all aspects of patent prosecution, including patentability searches, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, clearance searches and invalidity searches. This position is expected to meet or exceed a billable hour model. This role has a strong emphasis on managing PCT national phase entries under 35 U.S.C. § 371, particularly for matters originating from Japan, and involves working closely with clients who require Japanese language fluency.

• Conducts patentability searches and analyses, and assists in the identification of patentable inventions
• Drafts patent applications with the assistance of the patent team
• Prepares Information Disclosure Statements for submission to the US Patent and Trademark Office
• Assists with invalidity and clearance searches
• Assists with developing response strategies to office actions
• Works hand-in-hand with inventors on newly created products
• Solves client challenges and responds to client needs

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or math

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree or PhD

Required Licenses and/or Certifications: USPTO Registration required

Required Experience: 1 year of professional experience; full professional proficiency in Japanese

Preferred Experience: 2+ years of experience
