Role Summary:

we are seeking a Patent Agent with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field to join the IP Prosecution team. The Patent Agent will work closely with clients and colleagues to understand technology, develop prosecution strategies, draft and prosecute patent applications, perform analyses of prior art, conduct freedom-to-operate studies, and contribute to the growth of client IP portfolios. This role is available in both Boston and Washington, D.C.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications
  • Conduct comprehensive searches of scientific literature, patents, and patent applications
  • Analyze inventions and compare them with prior art to identify key differentiating features
  • Assess scientific data and provide informed technical insight
  • Draft responses to USPTO and international office actions, including argumentation and reference analysis
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate and clearance studies for client products
  • Prepare clear, concise written explanations of scientific and patent concepts
  • Collaborate with inventors, scientists, engineers, and attorneys to support IP strategy
  • Engage with clients working on innovative and emerging technologies
  • Participate in team-based review processes and provide constructive feedback
  • Work onsite ~60% of the time in line with firm guidelines

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • COVER LETTER REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field
  • Ability to clearly present scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical skills, scientific reasoning, and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience drafting or prosecuting patent applications
  • Exposure to freedom-to-operate studies or patentability analysis
  • Experience working with inventors or R&D teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,379.00 - $150,000.00 per year
