Position Summary

The Patent Analyst will support the patent team in conducting high-quality patent research, drafting analytics reports, performing patent landscape studies, and assisting in preparation of patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and validity analyses. The role blends technical insight with legal understanding to drive strategic IP decision-making for clients.

Key Responsibilities

Patent Research & Analysis

• Conduct patentability searches across major global patent databases.
• Perform state-of-the-art (SOTA) and prior art searches using tools like Derwent, PatBase, Orbit, Espacenet, USPTO, WIPO, and Indian Patent databases.
• Generate concise search summaries with key findings, classifications, and insights.

Patent Landscaping & Competitive Intelligence

• Prepare patent landscape reports and technology trend maps.
• Analyse competitor portfolios, filing trends, and innovation hotspots.
• Support strategic decision-making with data visualisations and metrics.

Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) & Validity Support

• Assist in FTO analysis by identifying potentially relevant third-party patents.
• Help prepare validity reports by collating prior art and technical comparisons.

Drafting & Documentation

• Draft clear, structured patent research reports tailored to client needs.
• Ensure accuracy in citation, classification (IPC/CPC), and terminology.
• Coordinate with patent attorneys to support drafting of legal documents.

Database Management & Quality Control

• Ensure quality, consistency, and reliability of research output.
• Stay updated with classification changes and new database features.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Patent Attorneys, Analysts, and IP Strategists.
• Support client presentations and internal knowledge sharing sessions.

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Background

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical fields.
• Patent certification or training (preferred).

Technical and Analytical Skills

• Strong aptitude for technical research and interpretation.
• Familiarity with patent search databases and tools.
• Ability to analyse and synthesise large volumes of technical information.

Communication Skills

• Excellent English communication — written and verbal.
• Ability to draft professional reports and summaries.

Attention to Detail

• Meticulous in search strategies, classifications, and citations.
• High standard of quality control and accuracy.

Preferred

• Experience in IP analytics, patent searching, or patent support roles.
• Knowledge of CPC/IPC classification systems.
• Exposure to competitive intelligence or technology landscaping.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
