Patent Attorney – Technology and AI

Strata Legal Talent is partnering with a leading New Jersey organization to hire an experienced Patent Attorney with a strong technical foundation and hands-on experience supporting innovation in engineering and technology-driven environments. This role is ideal for someone who has worked closely with product development or engineering teams and has managed various stages of patent prosecution from invention disclosure through global filing strategy.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications, including matters involving software, electrical engineering, AI, and emerging technologies.
• Prepare responses to Office Actions (including §101, §102, and §103 rejections) and conduct Examiner interviews.
• Support invention harvesting, invention review meetings, and communication with technical teams.
• Conduct prior art searches, landscape reviews, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
• Assist with portfolio strategy, including pruning, continuation practice, and identifying opportunities for protection.
• Prepare or review claim charts and support IP analysis for potential licensing, enforcement, or strategic initiatives.
• Review and draft IP-related agreements such as NDAs, joint development agreements, and licensing documents.
• Collaborate with outside counsel and manage workflow where needed.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar.
• Strong analytical, communication, and drafting skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Experience interacting with engineers, product teams, or R&D groups is highly valued.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
