Pathology Anatomic Technician /FT. day

Schedule: FT, Mon - Fri, rotating hours 0730-1530 and 0830-1630

A Brief Overview
Assists Pathologists in the Frozen Section/Gross area by maintaining storage of specimens, preparing stains, checking inventory, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting and general cleaning. Coordinates send outs, consultations, transcription of autopsies, and other office duties related to Anatomic Pathology Testing.

Essential Functions

  • Accession, prepare, arrange, retrieve, order, and store anatomic specimens to assist Pathologists with gross dictation.
  • Maintain tissue specimen storage and dispose at prescribed intervals to facilitate retrieval as necessary.
  • Coordinates Send outs (2nd opinions, requests, and research studies), consultations, maintains specimen log books, handles phone requests (Outside, Oncology, Surgery, GI), transcription of autopsies, perform QA, prepare materials for conferences, filing and maintaining of slides, and report entry for Pathologist review.
  • Prepare stains and solutions necessary for tissue preparation and frozen section staining by following standard procedures.
  • Perform and record quality control and preventative maintenance procedures to assure instruments, stains and procedures are operating within acceptable standards.
  • Maintain the gross surgical and frozen section areas and the photography and cutting instruments to facilitate prompt and hygienic completion of tasks by daily monitoring and cleaning as necessary.
  • Maintain supplies necessary for the completion of duties by checking inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Supports new staff, current staff, and students in Orientation, Training, and Competency.
  • Maintains and updates Policies and Procedures; Regulatory preparation for CAP inspection.
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
  • Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Previous laboratory experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Requires ability to read, write and perform mathematical computations as normally acquired through a high school education.
  • Accurate alpha/numeric keyboarding ability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
