Pathology LIS Administrator, Information Systems (DLS Oahu)

SCHEDULE
Regular Full-Time Position
Must be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.

HIRING RANGE
$71,794 - $94,017 annually
Actual pay commensurate with experience

JOB SUMMARY
The Pathology LIS Administrator supports the administration, maintenance and optimization of the Pathology Laboratory Information System (LIS). Troubleshoots system issues, coordinates integrations and upgrades, performs validation and documentation and provides end user support while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Administers and maintains Pathology LIS, including configuration, security and user management. (50%)*
  • Ensures high availability of all devices, connections and software for business information systems and applications as assigned.
  • Coordinates upgrades, patches and enhancements with vendors and internal teams.
  • Handles LIS integration with EMR/EHR systems, laboratory instruments and billing systems.
  • Implements and enforces IT and laboratory data standards, including HIPAA, CLIA and CAP compliance.
  • Develops and maintains documentation for LIS workflows and SOPs.
  • Participates in validation and testing of LIS changes, including new modules and instrument interfaces.
  • Builds, tests, deploys and maintains databases using LIS administrative tools.
  • Performs periodic quality control testing on key LIS data elements based on defined sets of conditions and rules.
  • Translates stakeholder requirements into software, database and/or hardware specifications.
  • Acts as the IT subject matter expert for the pathology LIS and understands department workflows.
  • Supports and trains end users as needed.
2.Troubleshoots and analyzes problems and derives various technical solutions. (30%)*
  • Troubleshoots LIS-related issues, including HL7 interface errors and data integrity problems.
  • Handles service requests from end-users and works to resolve issues.
  • Drafts technical specifications and related documentation on systems operating procedures for review and approval department management.
  • Performs cross functional collaboration to optimize workflows and cross trains IT team as needed.
  • Supports operations after normal business hours as required.
3.Handles assigned projects within DLS using project management and quality tools. (20%)*
  • Assists with requirements gathering, testing, and validation for projects as assigned.
  • Consults with Information Systems (IS) technical team to identify technical options.
  • Ensures feasibility of technical proposal under the advisement of the appropriate IS management team member.
  • Tracks projects as defined in Department and/or company policy and procedures, identifying and reporting budgetary variance and project scope deviation promptly to the management team.
4.Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB DEMANDS

Typical Physical Demands:
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Able to sit and use PC for two (2) hours continuously.
  • Requires working under pressure and handling multiple assignments.
  • Able to lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds occasionally.
  • Requires ground and/or air travel occasionally.
Typical Working Conditions:
  • Work environment includes conditions common to administrative offices.
  • Generally works in an indoor, air-conditioned area.
  • Remote position must be located on Oahu. Requires frequent visits or working from company offices and client locations.
  • Ability to work remotely (high speed internet, secure working area, cell phone, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Medical Technology, or related field. (High School diploma plus four (4) years of Information Technology work experience on healthcare systems or Associate degree plus two (2) years of Information Technology work experience on healthcare systems may substitute for Bachelor’s degree.)
Experience:
Required:
  • Two (2) years of experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • One (1) year of experience configuring, maintaining or troubleshooting pathology/laboratory systems.
Preferred:
  • Experience with EMR/EHR.
  • Experience with LIS or EMR/EHR interfaces.
  • Experience with HL7, ADT, and other interface messages.
  • Experience administering software systems.
Certification:
Preferred:
  • ASCP Certification
  • Experience with pathology specific LIS systems such as LigoLab, CoPath, PowerPath, NovaPath, Cerner, SoftPath, etc.
Skills:
Required:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently with a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Effective coaching skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in system requirements and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple assignments.

Other Qualifications:

Required:
  • Able to travel between business locations.
