Position Title: Patient Access Specialist
Reports to: Clinical Coordinator
Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: Makes appointments for patients using clinic’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Greets and registers patients, when they present, in an accurate, timely, and appropriate manner. Ensures that demographic and insurance information is accurately collected in accordance with established clinic procedures and protocols. Creates patient charts/accounts, collect patient payments.
Responsibilities: Front Desk
Bilingual Spanish preferred
a. Communicates with patients in a warm, courteous, linguistically appropriate and professional manner.
b. Schedules patients in accordance with established provider schedules and clinic protocols.
c. Records no-shows and cancellations in EMR, and routes patient messages to appropriate clinical staff.
d. Obtains and/or verifies that current demographic information is accurate; updates information in the system as needed.
e. Obtains and/or verifies insurance status and updates information in the system as needed. Scans insurance cards into the EMR at each visit.
f. Creates accounts for new patients.
g. Routes phone calls to the appropriate party or takes complete accurate messages; documents message in the EMR.
h. Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
i. Advises patients of clinic policies regarding scheduling, payments, no-shows, etc. and answers questions as appropriate, advises patients to bring in necessary financial and/or insurance documentation as indicated.
j. Checks patients in and out, collects patient payments.
k. Assists with filing, copying, faxing, scanning, and other clerical duties when time is available and at direction of supervisor.
l. Prints end-of-day reports and balances cash drawer.
Responsibilities: other
a. Assists in maintaining the waiting room in a clean and orderly manner.
b. Complies with OSHA regulations as well as all clinic safety standards.
c. Participates in staff meetings, training.
d. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
a. High school diploma or equivalency.
b. Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures.
c. Experience working on computers.
d. Strong math skills.
e. Knowledge of standard office machines including copier, fax, multi-line telephone, printers, etc.
f. Ability to manage multiple tasks.
g. Excellent customer service skills and ability to effectively and respectfully handle dissatisfied patients.
h. Ability to work independently and to use good judgment.
i. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with co-workers and function as a team member.
j. Demonstrated awareness of, and value for, cultural competence.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
