Job Title: Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

Job Summary:

A Patient Care Assistant provides essential support to patients and healthcare professionals by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring comfort and safety. The role requires compassion, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating
  • Help patients move, transfer, or reposition safely (e.g., from bed to wheelchair)
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)
  • Report changes in patient condition to nurses or supervising staff
  • Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms and ensure a safe environment
  • Assist with feeding and hydration, including recording intake and output
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients
  • Transport patients to different departments for tests or procedures
  • Follow infection control and safety procedures at all times
  • Assist nurses with basic clinical tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in Nursing Assistant or Patient Care (if required by employer or country)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is often preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina to lift and assist patients
  • Compassionate and patient-centered attitude
  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
