Responsibilities:
- Functions as a member of a coordinated patient care team and receives direction, assignment, and supervision from a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support the delivery of patient care services throughout the organization.

Accepts assignments across multiple patient care units based on staffing and patient care needs

Provides one-to-one patient safety observation for patients requiring continuous monitoring due to behavioral health concerns, cognitive impairment, confusion, elopement risk, suicide precautions, or other safety concerns

Maintains continuous visual observation of assigned patients in accordance with hospital policy and physician orders

Recognizes and immediately reports changes in patient behavior, condition, or safety risks to the RN/LPN
-
Uses therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques as appropriate for behavioral observation patients
-
Identifies and reports environmental safety hazards and assists in maintaining a safe patient environment

Documents observation activities and patient behaviors according to organizational policy

Transitions between Patient Care Assistant duties and patient safety observation duties during a shift based on patient needs and staffing requirements

Demonstrates flexibility in adapting to different units, patient populations, workflows, and care environments

Provides support during periods of increased census, staffing shortages, admissions, transfers, discharges, and other operational needs
-
Maintains competency to work in multiple patient care areas as assigned
-
Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team members across multiple departments
-
Employee may be assigned to any patient care area for which competency has been demonstrated and may perform Patient Care Assistant duties, Patient Sitter duties, or a combination of both during a scheduled shift based on patient care needs and staffing requirements

Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements

Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards

Additional Information:
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Required
