Patient Care Technician

Position Summary:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists Nurses and Providers in direct patient care. The PCT performs duties consistent with his/her training and proven competence and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery at Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital (SSMH). Basic duties include, but are not limited to: assisting patients with activities of daily living, obtaining vital signs, and observing patients. Other duties may be assigned.


Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Required: Current BLS Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Preferred: Current Alaska Certification as a CNA, or
    • Current Alaska Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or
    • Current Alaska Certification as a Medical Assistant, or
    • Equivalent Military Experience
  • Formal training in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention (CPI) must be completed within (1) year of hire.

Education:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent


Experience:

Clinical experience preferred.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous healthcare experience preferred
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills
  • Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers
  • Specific departments may require some specified skills.
