Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician II delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, performing phlebotomy, and collecting specimen samples. This position is integral to ensuring patient safety and comfort, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, and collaborating with the healthcare team to monitor and communicate changes in patient condition. Key responsibilities encompass wound care management, urinary catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, IV placement, EKG operation, and providing support with enteral feedings and respiratory treatments under appropriate supervision. The technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and organized clinical environment, promptly responding to patient alarms, mentoring junior technicians, and strictly adhering to safety protocols to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
II. Education & Experience: A high school diploma or its equivalent is required, along with current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA). A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred. Additionally, possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
III. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong teamwork and interpersonal capabilities, and the ability to prioritize effectively in high-pressure environments. Proficiency with computer systems is essential, as is the ability to accurately perform and document blood glucose testing. Furthermore, the candidate must be competent in executing delegated nursing tasks with sensitivity to the diverse needs of patients, while maintaining strict adherence to aseptic techniques and related protocols.
