General Position Summary:
The Patient Transportation Specialist (PTS) is responsible for providing non-emergent
patient transportation to Johnson Health Center (JHC) facilities as well as specialist offices
when referred by JHC. The PTS is responsible for ensuring safe transportation in a caring
environment for JHC patients. The PTS reports to the Patient Transportation Coordinator
(PTC).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides professional and caring customer service for all patients while performing
duties as the PTS.
2. Ensures safe transportation for patients, adhering to all traffic laws.
3. Adheres to the JHC Code of Conduct and policies/procedures at all times while
providing patient transportation.
4. Completes a vehicle check at the beginning of each shift to ensure the vehicle is in
proper, safe working order.
5. Reports any defects and/or deficiencies in the transportation vehicle to the PTC as soon
as they are noted.
6. Conducts weekly and monthly vehicle inspections and records and reports any
deficiencies.
7. Maintains transportation log of patients served, mileage driven, and any applicable
incidents during transportation.
8. Communicates any unexpected delays in patient arrival to the appropriate facilities.
9. Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the
essential functions of the job.
10. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Other Functions:
1. Executes all activities as PTS in a consistent and professional manner.
2. Ability to work effectively with all levels of community individuals, administrative, and
professional personnel, and to creatively anticipate and solve challenges.
3. Staff members must abide by the Code of Conduct as documented in the Corporate
Compliance Manual.
4. Must demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to Johnson Health Center
and its mission.
5. Treats all patients and staff with dignity and respect, mindful of the cultural differences
of the diverse population we serve.
6. Management may modify, add, or remove any job functions as necessary, or as
changing organizational needs require.
7. Must possess and maintain a Virginia Driver’s License with a clean driving record, as
evidenced by periodically approved DMV background checks.

Physical Demand and Working Environment:
Fast-paced office setting with travel to other offices often. Lifting and/or exerting force up
to 25 pounds occasionally, with frequently moving of objects. Work requires speaking,
sitting, bending, walking, standing, hearing, and stooping, kneeling, and repetitive motion
with certain activities. OSHA high-risk position.

Qualifications:
1.
1-2 years’ experience in providing transportation, preferably patient transportation.
High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to navigate the Greater Lynchburg area.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide high levels of customer service.
4. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
5. Ability to use computer systems and the Internet.
6. Must have a valid driver’s license and remain in good standing
7. Must maintain an acceptable driving record, which will be periodically confirmed by
utilizing an approved Department of Motor Vehicles background check.
