Transport and Positioning
-
Transports patients safely between all patient care areas, using appropriate body mechanics.

Prepares the cart/bed for patients' post-op transfer.
-
Transports specimens to lab in a timely manner.
-
Assists families to designated locations.
-
Ensures that patients are comfortable, warm, and safe.
-
Assists nursing staff in lifting and positioning patients on to transport cart, wheelchair, and patient bed.
Outpatient Surgery Activities
-
Assists with shaves and preps including CHG Wipes as needed and per OR guidelines.
-
Performs terminal cleaning of OPS cubicles and carts on a regular basis.
-
Makes lab runs, picks up/returns blood products, documents appropriate Blood bank requirements.
-
Cleans patient nourishment refrigerator monthly.
-
Daily documents the patient nourishment refrigerator temperature.
-
Daily checks and changes the needle boxes in the department as needed.
-
Obtains 12-lead EKG's.
-
Taking and recording vital signs including temperatures, blood pressure, pulse and respirations; also measuring and recording standing or bed scale weights

Obtain blood glucose samples and documents accordingly.

Discontinues IV catheters when directed.
-
Follows infection prevention policy at all times. Utilizes standard work when cleaning rooms between patients.

Assists nurse with other procedures as directed.
Supplies
-
Assists in expediting the delivery of needed supplies from center core tote system to the OPS.
-
Picks up and returns all types of supplies and equipment from CPD and Pharmacy.
-
Orders stock inventory supplies using established par levels for cost control and assumes responsibility for restocking when supplies arrive.

Keeps linen areas, warmers, and supply cart supplied and orderly.
-
Reports damaged equipment to engineering, such as bad wheels, squeaks, etc.
-
Assists with clean-up/setup of cubicles in OPS.
Education and Training
-
Attends minimum of 50% of unit meetings and is responsible for 100% of information shared at meetings.

Assists in orientation of new personnel as requested.
-
Completes annual skills verification as determined by clinical needs and as documented by OPS Educator.

Education And Experience
-
The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Must maintain current CPR certification. Patient care experience in acute facility or free-standing ambulatory surgery center is preferred.

Physical Demands

Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
