Job Title: Payroll and HR Assistant
Reports To: Human Resources Manager
The National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC) is seeking an experienced Payroll and HR Assistant to join our Human Resources Team. This is an administrative opportunity for a technically proficient, detail-oriented, and self-disciplined individual who is passionate about supporting the NCAC's mission to champion and strengthen the global response to child abuse.
About the role:
As a member of our team in Huntsville, AL, you will review and maintain employee time records and ensure accurate biweekly payroll processing. Additionally, you will perform administrative tasks and services to support the effective and efficient operations of the Human Resources department. This role requires an ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. It is essential for maintaining compliance with labor laws and supporting effective HR practices within our values-based and mission-driven environment. A typical day may include:- Inspecting employee timesheets for errors
- Sending reminders for timesheet completion
- Processing biweekly payroll
- Updating an employee's withholdings or personal information in the HRIS system
- Answering questions about time-off accrual, usage, and balance
- Assisting employees with questions about a procedure
- Auditing monthly invoices from insurance carriers with our enrollment records
- Processing background checks for employees and volunteers
- Recordkeeping, filing, and similar routine tasks for internal department operations
- Creating new hire packets
- Retrieving employee files for auditors

Education and experience requirements for this role include:- High school diploma or GED is required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance, or related field is preferred
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in timesheet administration and payroll processing
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in human resources
- Prefers some administrative level experience with Paychex or other HRIS
Location and Hours
This position will work part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, on-site at our Huntsville, AL office. Our standard business hours are 9:00 - 5:00, Monday through Friday.
