3M announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with Bain Capital to form a new Joint Venture which will combine Scott Safety and Madison Fire and Rescue. 3M's deep expertise and track record in the safety industry combined with Bain Capital's capability to integrate businesses, accelerate growth and drive synergies make this an ideal partnership.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
The successful candidate may be employed by 3M prior to closing and the position is expected to transition to the Joint Venture following completion of the transaction. Role scope and timing are subject to business needs and successful transaction close.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Payroll Leader, you will play a critical, hands-on role in executing and supporting payroll operations across the U.S., Canada, and the UK. This is a “working leader” position where you will ensure completion of payroll processing while also serving as a key point of coordination for payroll activities, vendor interactions, and process improvements.
You will help ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency, while supporting global alignment and driving continuous improvement. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning work end-to-end, solving complex payroll challenges, and contributing beyond day-to-day processing.
Key Responsibilities
Execute and support end-to-end payroll processing for the U.S. and Canada, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain overall responsibility and coordination for UK payroll operations, partnering with in-region resources and vendors to ensure accurate and compliant processing.
Serve as a key point of contact for payroll vendors (e.g., ADP), supporting issue resolution, data validation, and ongoing service delivery.
Process and review complex payroll transactions, including bonuses, off-cycle payments, deferred compensation, and other special payments.
Perform payroll audits and reconciliations to ensure data accuracy, identify discrepancies, and support compliance requirements (including SOX controls).
Support payroll-related projects and system enhancements, including testing, implementation, and production support for Workday and payroll integrations.
Assist in maintaining compliance with evolving payroll regulations; proactively flag risks and support updates to processes and controls.
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documentation to improve consistency, scalability, and team effectiveness.
Support issue resolution and escalations by researching payroll discrepancies and partnering with internal stakeholders (HR, Finance) and external vendors.
Identify and contribute to process improvement opportunities, including automation, efficiency gains, and enhanced employee experience.

ADP experience
Microsoft Excel experience including ability to write macros
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated project management experience
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
Experience with customer collections and dispute resolution
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience working directly with customers on payment-related issues
Work location:
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
