Starting salary for this position:
$39,852.80 ($19.16/Hourly)*

  • Offered salary will be determined by experience, qualifications, and skill set that the candidate brings to the position. Though this position is unclassified, the posted starting salary is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 25, step 6. Please contact Recruitment Coordinator for further details.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and supporting comprehensive post-release reentry efforts for individuals preparing for release to, or currently on parole in, the Kansas City/Wyandotte County area. The role provides support to parole officers and returning citizens to help facilitate successful reintegration into the community. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team that identifies unmet reentry needs with a particular focus on stable housing placement. Close collaboration with the facility-based Reentry Specialist, facility reentry staff, and parole staff is required to accurately identify gaps or needs in an individual’s reentry plan. The role also involves coordinating with community partners and resources to ensure a continuum of care, with particular emphasis on housing support and securing vital documents to assist reentry efforts in accordance with HB 2653. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, connecting individuals to appropriate community-based case management services and maintaining close collaboration with KDOC Career Navigators and providing interim case management with the individual for a minimum of 60 days post-release or until resources are established.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Establish and maintain relationships with community resources to expand housing opportunities for individuals being released from prison, as well as those currently on parole. Serve as the primary point of contact for landlords and housing resource cultivation, addressing issues, concerns, or challenges related to maintaining housing stability for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. This includes helping to identify suitable housing options, assisting with the application and approval processes, and offering ongoing support to address any housing-related challenges during the transition period.

Responsibilities include collaborating with city and county agencies to explore subsidized housing opportunities through housing authorities and other public housing programs when available. The position also works closely with community organizations and partners that share a similar mission to increase housing options for individuals reintegrating into society. Additional duties may include developing educational resources and implementing educational programming focused on tenancy, housing stability, and resource management.

Provision of supportive case management for individuals with identified reentry needs and reduce reentry barriers within the first 60 days of release. These efforts are to assist the parole officer and returning citizen, working towards case management goals and action steps identified by the parole officer and participant, documented within the case plan. This includes but not limited to connecting participants with mental health, substance use treatment assessors, Career Navigators and working to remove barriers like transportation that may limit service provision.

Establish and maintain a tracking system for individuals receiving services, documenting all services provided and progress in Athena. Provide monthly updates to the Program Manager regarding the acquisition of vital documents to ensure compliance with Kansas House Bill 2653.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and one (1) year of experience working with offenders in corrections, parole, or law enforcement. Or 60 semester hours of college credit, with twelve (12) hours in corrections or related field, and three (3) years of experience working with offenders in corrections.

Experience working with offenders or other at-risk-for homeless or homeless populations

Experience with community advocacy.

Experience with making referrals and/or placements to community resources, especially related to housing.

Knowledge of the housing services providers/system at the federal, state and local level.

Experience developing community resources for special needs offenders, especially in regards to housing and job options.

Demonstrated skill of problem solving.

Demonstrated skill in multi-tasking.

Organizational skills.

Comfortable working as part of a team.

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
