Overview
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in providing compassionate support and assistance to patients in various healthcare settings. This position is essential for enhancing the quality of life for individuals requiring personal care, whether in a clinic, hospital, or home environment. The PCA will work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive the highest standard of care while promoting their dignity and independence.

Duties

• Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
• Monitor and report changes in patients’ health status to the healthcare team.
• Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and their families.
• Help with mobility and transportation within the facility or to appointments.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to hygiene standards.
• Assist with basic medical tasks under the supervision of nursing staff, including taking vital signs and preparing patients for examinations.
• Support patients in outpatient settings as well as those admitted to inpatient units, including Level I Trauma Centers and teaching hospitals.

Skills

• Knowledge of emergency medicine practices is beneficial for responding effectively in critical situations.
• Familiarity with inpatient care protocols, particularly in medical-surgical units or specialized areas such as PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit).
• Experience working within an OR (Operating Room) setting is a plus for assisting surgical teams.
• Ability to engage effectively with patients in both outpatient and inpatient environments.
• Strong communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
• Empathy and patience are essential traits for providing high-quality personal care.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to various healthcare settings, including clinics and hospitals.
