Background:
The PCB Electro-Mechanical Designer is part of a team for product development of linear and switch-mode power supplies and has an integral role in creating high-density, mixed-technology printed circuit boards (PCBs) and their associated mechanical components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical design, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet specifications using Design for Excellence principles
- Verify PWB design through virtual modeling using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
- Participate in design reviews, implement design changes and resolve any issues during prototyping and production stages.
- Contribute to the mechanical design and packaging (3D model) of linear and switch-mode power supplies (10W-30kW, 3V-10KV) used to power magnets, redundant processes, in applications requiring bidirectional and four quadrants, in analytical instrumentation, industrial test equipment, security and OEM power assemblies and supplies.
- Adhere to standard PCB manufacturing processes to ensure quality, compliance, and reliability. Knowledge of IPC and UL standards, EMI/EMC as well as design provisions for automatic testing.
- Generate Gerber files, assembly files and BOMs. Create detailed manufacturing instructions via 2D/3D CAD drawings or MS Office.
- Stay current with the latest PCB design trends and technologies through continuous learning, supporting both personal career growth and team capabilities.
Qualifications:
Experience designing PCBs with CAD tools such as Altium, KiCAD, ORCAD or equivalent.
- Experience in creating schematics and block diagrams using CAD/CAE
- Knowledge of electronic circuit layout and electronic packaging principles.
- Proficiency in PCB-related mechanical design and 3D packaging using AutoCAD, Inventor 3D, SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
- Ability to select the proper substrate, rigid, flexible, Cu weight, thru or blind vias and isolation techniques for analog and digital PWB design
- Strong understanding of PCB assemblies’ fabrication processes and technologies
- Knowledge of BOM and ERP systems.
- Work with minimal supervision, able to multitask, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment and productive with Office
- Hands on abilities to assemble bread boards
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Engineering.
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the switching power supply industry a plus
- Background in general mechanical packaging design and 3D modeling.
- Strong knowledge of electromechanical components, mechanical housing fabrication (sheet metal) and plastic molding a definite plus.
