Key responsibilities
- Preventive care: Conduct oral health exams, perform routine cleanings, apply fluoride treatments, and place sealants.
- Patient and parent education: Teach children and their guardians about proper brushing, flossing, and nutrition. Counsel on habits like thumb-sucking.
- Treatment: Diagnose and treat dental issues, including cavities, infections, and injuries. Administer fillings and other restorative treatments.
- Diagnosis: Examine X-rays and oral structures to diagnose problems, including early signs of bite issues that may require orthodontic intervention.
- Behavioral management: Use creative problem-solving and communication skills to manage dental anxiety and make the experience positive for the child.
- Specialized care: Administer anesthesia or sedation when necessary and provide treatment for children with special needs.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and complete necessary referrals and paperwork.
