Pediatric Hospitalist

85049BR
Pediatric Physician's Organization

Job Posting Description

Franciscan Children’s Hospital is seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist to join a growing, mission-driven, and increasingly academic inpatient medical program focused on children with complex medical and rehabilitative needs.

This is a unique opportunity to practice in a post-acute care and rehabilitation setting. Physicians in this role care for children transitioning from acute hospitalization toward medical stability, a new functional baseline, and discharge, with a strong emphasis on active management, rehabilitation, and safe, efficient transitions of care. This is not a chronic or custodial care model; rather, it is a dynamic, goal-oriented environment where providers play a central role in helping patients move forward.

For physicians currently practicing in high-acuity tertiary centers, this role offers the opportunity to maintain clinical complexity and intellectual engagement, while gaining the time and perspective to optimize recovery, coordinate care across settings, and see the full arc of a patient’s progress.

Franciscan Children’s is entering a period of significant growth, including expansion of clinical programs, deepening affiliation with Boston Children’s Hospital, and planning for a new state-of-the-art hospital within the next five years. This position is ideal for a physician who is motivated to help shape the future of post-acute pediatric care through program development, quality improvement, and academic engagement.

We welcome both full-time candidates and those interested in shared roles with Boston Children’s Hospital, offering flexibility and continued engagement in tertiary or subspecialty practice.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient care to children with ongoing active medical and rehabilitative needs following acute hospitalization
  • Manage patients with technology dependence, including tracheostomy, ventilator support, gastrostomy tubes, and central lines, with a focus on weaning, optimization, and discharge readiness
  • Lead admissions, daily management, and discharge planning, with a strong emphasis on throughput, progression, and safe transition to home or lower levels of care
  • Work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team, including rehabilitation, respiratory therapy, nursing, and care coordination
  • Supervise and partner with advanced practice providers
  • Coordinate subspecialty care and ensure alignment of care plans with discharge goals
  • Partner closely with families to support education, training, and readiness for care at home or in the community

Program Development, Quality & Academic Opportunities

  • Participate in and lead quality improvement and process improvement initiatives focused on:

o Length of stay optimization

o Ventilator weaning and decannulation pathways

o Discharge readiness and care transitions

  • Contribute to the development of clinical pathways and post-acute care models for medically complex children
  • Engage in an evolving academic environment, with opportunities for:

o Teaching trainees as programs expand

o Participating in research or QI dissemination

o Collaborating with academic partners, including Boston Children’s Hospital

  • Help define and build the role of post-acute pediatric hospital medicine within a growing institution

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking physicians who are energized by both clinical complexity and goal-directed, recovery-focused care.
