Responsibilities:
  • Administers the physical therapy treatment plan as developed by the Physical Therapist
  • Administers non-complex active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, traction, heat, light, cold, water and electrical modalities to patients
  • Applies concepts of infection control and universal precautions in coordinating/performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease
  • Accepts clinical assignments that are consistent with education and competence to care for patients
  • Meets mandatory continuing education requirements of the agency/licensing board
  • Plans and provides appropriate treatment for neuro-muscular, neurological and orthopedic disorders based on medical referral and therapy assessment
  • Assists/instructs patient/family in transfer techniques appropriate to patient abilities. Instructs on use of equipment such as walkers, wheelchair, canes, etc., in a safe manner. Utilizes appropriate therapy equipment specific to patient diagnosis and needs
  • Demonstrates commitment, professional growth and competency
  • Promotes Agency mission and administrative policies
Requirements:
  • A two year Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
  • Current Texas State License as a Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Current Texas Driver's License
  • Proof of current CPR and Hepatitis profile
  • Ability to do heavy lifting, bending, pulling, pushing and standing. Prolonged standing and walking required
  • Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines in patient needs and to meet patient/family individualized psycho social needs
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Uses effective interpersonal relations and communication skills
