Tutor undergraduate students one-on-one, modeling how best to study for and think about course content.
Days/Hours Needed
A tutor’s weekly work schedule is flexible. Tutoring sessions are usually held on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Mon-Thurs and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. The number of paid tutoring hours can vary depending on your schedule, the types of courses you can tutor and the number of courses you’d like to tutor.
Attending paid pre-semester training and paid weekly staff training meetings during the first 8 weeks of the semester are requirements for the position. Pre-semester training is held the Friday before classes begin, and semester staff training meetings are determined based on tutor schedule/availability.

Required Qualifications
- Must be a SUNY Cortland student.
- Must attend pre-semester training from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, August 21. Tutors are paid, lunch is included, and early housing will be arranged if needed.
- Must attend paid semester staff training meetings.
- Peer Tutors work toward earning College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Certification as a Level 1 Tutor while employed by The Learning Center.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and they must have earned a B+ or higher in courses they wish to tutor. Student may be asked to submit an email recommendation from a SUNY Cortland professor.
