Position Title: People & Culture Business Partner
Classification: Exempt, Part Time
Reports to: Vice President, People & Culture
Direct Reports: None
Role Objective
The P&C Business Partner will be responsible for localising and implementing the global P&C strategy across Moose’s team in Tacoma, Washington. Working with the wider LAO P&C team to ensure the delivery of people programs and initiatives across all facets, align P&C initiatives and business objectives, ensuring P&C practices support productivity and efficiency including workforce trends, employee engagement, training & development, workplace safety, employee recognition, rewards & benefits, employee relations, and health & wellbeing (trends absenteeism, overtime, turnover).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a business partner or generalist role.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consulting skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with HRIS systems and data analysis tools.
- HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) is a plus.
Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Workforce Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for all Tacoma, WA employees regarding P&C related questions, policies, and workplace concerns.
- Coach and advise managers on performance management, conflict resolution, and corrective actions.
- Partner with VP of P&C to investigate and resolve complaints, grievances and disciplinary issues fairly and consistently.
Recruitment, Selection, and On-boarding
- Partner with LAO P&C team and hiring manager to identify staffing needs
- Conduct candidate screening and participate in interviews as needed;
- Manage all staff inductions and ensure training and relevant paperwork is completed and filed;
- Manage the on-boarding process, as well as the termination process; and
Benefit Administration
- Manage benefit and 401k enrolment and change processing using relevant system and ensure accurate record keeping,
- Partner with broker to address benefit inquiries;
- Provide recommendations to improve process efficiency where able;
- Assist in Open Enrolment preparation and document processing; and
- Support the P&C Manager with benefit related activities, as needed.
Performance Management and Recognition/Rewards
- Help to drive the Moose Performance Management Program (MPMP) and other relevant programs, in accordance with timelines;
- Assist with the annual Salary benchmarking process and maintain records accordingly;
- Work with People Managers to guide and support them with the performance management of staff as required; and
- Oversee the implementation of the Moose Reward and Recognition programs.
Training and Development
- Coordinate training programs for new hires and required safety protocols;
- Manage and maintain training rosters;
- Manage training records to ensure employee attendance where required and accurate and timely record keeping;
- Manage training calendar for US, partnering with L&D to ensure courses are scheduled in line with L&D requirements and strategy;
- Manage staff communications pertaining to training events as required; and
- Assist in the review of annual training and development activities to determine success and areas for improvement.
Occupational Health and Safety & Well-Being
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, WISHA, and other relevant workplace safety regulations.
- Partner with Safety Officers and management to conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Support the development, communication, and enforcement of health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, injuries, and corrective actions.
- Participate in investigations of workplace accidents or near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and follow-up actions are completed.
- Coordinate with Workers’ Compensation providers and manage return-to-work programs.
- Coordinate safety training for new hires and ongoing refresher courses for all employees.
Miscellaneous P&C Activities
- Responsible to maintain local and multi-state compliance postings, forms and pamphlets;
- Maintain employment and confidential files to ensure organization, compliance and confidentiality;
- Maintain HRIS data input and provide support and guidance to employees related to relevant HRIS processes;
- Maintain payroll data input and provide support and guidance to employees related to relevant payroll portal and processes;
- Assist with local and/or global P&C campaigns including planning, coordination and execution
- Assist with social event planning, coordination and execution
Work Hours
8:30am – 1:30pm, Monday thru Friday (20-25 hours a week)
30-minute unpaid lunch break each day.
Plus, reasonable additional hours due to multiple time-zones.
Moose also provides flexible working options.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone and other office productivity machinery, may need to reach, stoop, kneel to access items
- Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
- Light to moderate lifting is required
- Frequently communicates with other employees and third-parties, must be able to speak clearly and exchange accurate information.
