Position Summary:
Pre-Clinical Research Nurse will support groundbreaking research in the Kalish Lab on hypoxic brain injury using a lamb model. This per diem position is suited for a registered nurse with a strong background in pediatric or neonatal critical care. The primary responsibility is the comprehensive care of newborn lambs in their first week of life, adhering strictly to Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies and research protocols.
Key Responsibilities:-
Provide high-quality care to neonatal lambs, including monitoring vital signs and carrying out prescribed care plans following IACUC guidelines.

Administer various interventions such as fluid therapy, medication administration, and specialized care tailored to the lamb model of hypoxic brain injury.

Maintain detailed documentation of care, observations, and any deviations, ensuring accuracy to support research integrity.

Collaborate closely with the research team, offering insights from a clinical perspective to enhance the quality and relevance of data collected.

Participate in training sessions and workshops to support ongoing education about large animal care in research settings.

Input observational and diagnostic data into the research database promptly and accurately.

Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues across multi-disciplinary research teams to uphold the quality of animal care.

This is a per diem position requiring flexibility to cover shifts as needed, primarily during the first week of each research lamb’s life cycle.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:-
A Bachelor's degree in nursing.
Experience:-
One year of Pediatric (PICU) or Neonatal (NICU) RN experience required.

Experience in research settings or familiarity with animal models in research preferred.

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to adhere to stringent care protocols and documentation standards.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.

Familiarity with regulatory guidelines such as Animal Welfare Act, USDA regulations, and AAALAC accreditation standards is advantageous.
Licensure/ Certifications:-
Current Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
