Job Summary
The Personal Computing Specialist III provides advanced technical support to resolve computer issues and guides users on the effective use of hardware and software applications across personal computing technology, end-user systems (desktops, laptops, and associated applications), and classroom technology. Additional responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software and audiovisual (A/V) equipment, documenting standards, services, procedures, and inventories to support departmental and institutional technology needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides technical guidance as the main contact for Extended and Extension Campus (EEC) users by troubleshooting computer issues, answering questions, and advising clients on how to use their hardware, software, and applications more effectively.
  • Support the maintenance and operation of the division’s website, registration system, and related reports.
  • Guide users on best practices with personal computing technologies to improve system capabilities and support technology updates.
  • Troubleshoot end-user computing systems, including desktops, laptops, and associated software applications providing technical support for Microsoft 365, network drives, remote desktop, and VPN connectivity issues.
  • Oversee classroom technology, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of software and audiovisual (A/V) equipment.
  • Maintain documentation for standards, services, procedures, and inventories.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and institutional technology needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer programming or a related degree
  • Three (3) years of experience in desktop support, software systems programming, systems administration, and maintaining equipment in mixed-networking settings; oran equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar roles.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of hands-on experience providing support for PC and Mac hardware, software, and operating systems (OS), ensuring up-to-date configurations and troubleshooting.
  • Experience installing and supporting PC hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Experience with classroom technology and instructional support.
  • Familiarity with university IT policies and compliance standards.
  • Hands-on experience supporting applications based on Windows Server, SQL Server, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Has current IT certifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
  • Extensive knowledge of various Operating Systems as Windows 10, 11, and, MacOSX
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Advanced troubleshooting, desktop support, clear communication, customer service, and strong organizational abilities.
  • Understanding of basic LAN Networking environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues independently, train non-technical users, adapt to new technologies, work collaboratively, and handle equipment transport.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport personal computing devices and related peripheral equipment.

Workplace and Eligibility Conditions
  • Regular movement throughout campus buildings to access classrooms, labs, and offices.
  • May involve bending, reaching, and connecting cables or peripherals in confined spaces.
