**Medical Records and Billing Clerk**
Job Summary:
We are a dynamic and fast-growing personal injury law firm seeking an experienced Medical Records and Billing Clerk. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining all medical records in an organized and efficient manner, as well as overseeing the billing and payment process.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain and update medical records in a secure and confidential manner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
2. Retrieve medical records from healthcare providers promptly as required for legal proceedings.
3. Review, verify, and process medical bills and invoices related to client cases.
4. Coordinate with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies and errors in billing and medical records.
5. Collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to provide necessary medical documentation for case preparation.
6. Ensure that all medical costs are properly accounted for and included in settlement discussions or court presentations.
7. Assist in negotiating reductions in medical bills when necessary.
8. Communicate with clients regarding their medical bill statuses and addressing any concerns or inquiries they might have.
9. Prepare regular reports detailing billing and record keeping activities.
10. Stay current with changing regulations, maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in law and healthcare.
11. Implement and manage electronic health records systems as required.
12. Manage requests for medical records by following proper authorization and consent procedures.
13. Work with the legal team to ensure medical records and billing details support the client's case.
14. Efficiently organize and archive old case files.
15. Facilitate communication between the legal team and healthcare providers.
Qualifications:
1. Bilingual ( Spanish/English)
2. Previous experience in medical billing and records management, preferably in a legal setting.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology and coding is required.
4. Familiarity with healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
8. Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records systems.
9. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
10. High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50 - $22.00 per hour
