Position Summary:

Efficiently manage and lead the operations of all Lee’s Marketplace pharmacies. Provide the tools, structure, and leadership necessary for pharmacy teams at each location to be successful through contracting, marketing, strategic planning, networking, clinical program development, and operational execution. Ensure all pharmacy operations are compliant with federal and state laws, store policies, and company procedures while delivering friendly, community-focused pharmacy services and strong financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Management & Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as the senior management leader accountable for all pharmacy operations across multiple retail locations.
  • Develop, engage, and lead Pharmacy Managers to operate the most friendly, helpful, and community-focused pharmacies in their neighborhoods.
  • Execute company pharmacy strategies to achieve sales growth, script growth, margin improvement, and profitability while controlling expenses.
  • Partner with the CEO and senior leadership on pharmacy strategy, growth opportunities, service offerings, and operational risk management.
  • Support new store openings, remodels, pharmacy expansions, and service line growth.
  • Represent the company on all pharmacy-related matters internally and externally.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
  • Ensure full compliance with all federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations, including Utah Board of Pharmacy, DEA, HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, and DMEPOS requirements.
  • Monitor compliance across all locations and promptly resolve any noncompliance issues.
  • Maintain pharmacy licenses, DEA registrations, inspections, audits, and regulatory documentation.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, audits, inspections, subpoenas, and investigations.
  • Oversee controlled substance compliance, error reporting, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce pharmacy policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
Clinical & Program Development
  • Develop and implement clinically oriented programs for Lee’s pharmacies, including immunizations, MTM, health screenings, and other clinical services.
  • Establish and maintain clinical standards for safe, ethical, and high-quality pharmacy practice.
  • Develop strategic plans for pharmacy clinical services as business needs require.
  • Monitor medication safety trends and implement preventive and corrective measures.
  • Ensure consistent and compliant handling, dispensing, documentation, and storage of all medications, including controlled substances.
Operations & Performance Management
  • Oversee day-to-day pharmacy operations across all stores, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and strong guest service.
  • Complete frequent store visits to assess compliance, workflow, staffing, cleanliness, service standards, and execution of company programs.
  • Develop, monitor, and act on key performance indicators related to guest satisfaction, script volume, labor, inventory, shrink, margin, and reimbursement.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance service levels, productivity, and consistency.
Financial & Business Management
  • Participate in the planning and development of the pharmacy retail budget, including sales, script growth, margin, labor, and controllable expenses.
  • Ensure pharmacy departments meet financial performance expectations and profitability targets, including EBITDA goals.
  • Monitor third-party reimbursement, PBM performance, and audit exposure implement corrective strategies as needed.
  • Review reimbursement rates on key medications and recommend changes to improve financial performance.
  • Partner with vendors, wholesalers, and third-party partners to manage contracts, pricing, and service levels.
  • Review completed insurance audits and develop training or process improvements to reduce future audit exposure and losses.
Leadership, Talent & Succession
  • Recruit, select, hire, and onboard pharmacists and pharmacy leadership in partnership with HR.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Pharmacy Managers, pharmacists, technicians, interns, and support staff.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and evaluations for Pharmacy Managers.
  • Develop and maintain succession plans for pharmacy leadership and key pharmacy positions across the company.
  • Provide career development opportunities and promote professional growth within pharmacy teams.
Training & Development
  • Develop, schedule, and oversee required pharmacy training programs and continuing education.
  • Ensure all pharmacy team members complete mandatory training, certifications, and regulatory education.
  • Develop training materials in response to audit findings, compliance issues, or operational risks.
  • Promote consistent training standards and expectations across all pharmacy locations.
Cross-Functional & External Collaboration
  • Partner with internal support teams, including Operations, Maintenance, HR, Finance, and IT.
  • Network with local organizations and community partners aligned with company's strategy and pharmacy services.
  • Participate in ad hoc committees and special projects as requested by senior leadership.
  • Represent the company in pharmacy-related issues, opportunities, and external engagements.
Coverage & Special Circumstances
  • Perform the duties of a Staff Pharmacist when necessary to support operations, coverage gaps, emergencies, or escalated issues.
  • Provide leadership support during audits, investigations, operational disruptions, or regulatory events.

Qualifications:

Education & Licensure
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited program.
  • Active Utah Pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required licenses, registrations, and certifications.
  • Immunization and CPR certification as required by Utah law.
Experience
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive pharmacy experience, including leadership or multi-site oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience with pharmacy regulatory compliance, controlled substances, audits, and inspections.
  • Strong operational knowledge of retail or grocery-based pharmacy environments.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and hold pharmacy leaders accountable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a Pharmacy Director, Regional Pharmacy Manager, or similar role.
  • Experience with PBM contracting, reimbursement management, and audit response.
  • Experience supporting pharmacy growth, new store openings, or operational improvements.
  • Strong financial acumen with responsibility for department performance.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
  • Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Ability to access and navigate all areas of the store.
  • Lifting may include floor-to-shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.

Role Scope

  • Establishes direction, standards, and accountability across all pharmacy operations.
  • Accountable for enterprise pharmacy outcomes, not individual store performance alone.
  • Performs pharmacist duties only when necessary to support operational needs or escalated issues.
