rotating daylight and evening shifts

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is an important step in the UPMC Pharmacy Career Ladder:

Pharmacy Technician: $19.74 – $29.67/hour

Certified Pharmacy Technician: $20.45 – $30.68/hour

Responsibilities:

Repackage, prepare, and accurately label medications, IV solutions, non-sterile compounds, and automated dispensing cabinets under pharmacist supervision.

Perform calculations, complete all required documentation, and ensure pharmacist review before dispensing.

Deliver medications to patient care units, manage transfers, and remove expired or recalled medications.

Understand and follow proper handling procedures for controlled substances.

Answer phones, assist customers, and manage pneumatic tube station operations.

Fill and deliver interdepartmental orders, maintaining accurate logs and records.

Operate pharmacy equipment including computers, fax machines, printers, automated dispensing cabinets, and telephones.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment by restocking, cleaning workstations, and returning medications to stock.

Promote UPMC Pinnacle’s Mission, Vision, and Values while participating in performance improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with nursing, physicians, and other hospital personnel; may travel to other UPMC Pinnacle facilities as needed.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Employment experience required (one of the following is required):
-
Prior pharmacy technician experience

College Degree (minimally an associate's degree) and previous related healthcare experience

Completion of a formal pharmacy technician certificate course

Completion of one full year of education at a college/university with an accredited school of pharmacy and enrolled in coursework working towards a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
