Job Description:
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Retail Pharmacy Technician to join our growing independent pharmacy team. The ideal candidate is professional, efficient, compassionate with patients, and capable of operating in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance with California pharmacy law.
Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in accurately preparing and dispensing prescription medications
- Enter prescription information into the pharmacy system accurately and efficiently
- Process insurance claims and troubleshoot third-party rejections
- Answer incoming phone calls professionally and assist patients with questions
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, prescribers, and healthcare staff
- Assist patients at pickup and drop-off counters
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with inventory management, medication stocking, expiration checks, and organization
- Assist with processing and organizing medication orders under pharmacist supervision
- Prepare prescription labels, packaging, and medication staging
- Coordinate refill requests and communicate with prescriber offices as needed
- Assist with prior authorizations and insurance-related issues
- Help maintain anpharmacy workflow efficiency and reduce patient wait times
- Assist with delivery coordination and patient communication when necessary
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy workspace
- Follow all California Board of Pharmacy regulations and company policies
- Perform additional pharmacy support duties as assigned by the pharmacist
Qualifications:
- Active California Pharmacy Technician License required
- Previous retail pharmacy experience preferred, but not required
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work professionally with pharmacists, patients, and healthcare providers
- Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, SIG codes, and medication names preferred
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates preferred
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with pharmacy workflow, prescription processing, and insurance billing
- Experience with DigitalRx is a plus, but not required — our current pharmacy system is DigitalRx and training can be provided
- Independent pharmacy experience preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of Medicare Part D and Medi-Cal billing is a plus
- Strong insurance troubleshooting and rejection resolution skills preferred
- Strong customer service, communication, and multitasking abilities
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift medication totes/packages up to 25 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive typing and data entry tasks
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
