Pharmacy Technician (Home Infusion, Sterile Compounding)

Looking to hire a full-time certified pharmacy technician to grow with our expanding pharmacy business. We are an independently owned, Home Infusion Pharmacy in Las Cruces. You will be learning and working in multiple roles to support our team in fulfilling the needs of patients and healthcare providers, including sterile compounding and intake processes. This position will provide opportunities for growth within our company.

Please note: Upon hire you will be expected to obtain a pharmacy technician license through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as this position may require covering shifts in our El Paso, Texas location, Vital Care of Sun City.

Job Summary

As a certified pharmacy technician, you will be assisting with the compounding of sterile preparations in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies and procedures, assembling patient supplies and equipment, and other tasks under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. You will also work on maintenance and cleaning of the pharmacy work areas as described in our References Manual, and assist with quality control and performance improvement activities as directed by the pharmacy manager. In this position, you will report to the pharmacy manager and lead pharmacy tech for daily duties. You will also be cross-trained with our supporting roles for the pharmacy (ex. insurance benefits verification, answering phone calls from patients and referral sources, assisting with clinical and marketing staff responsibilities.)

Required Qualifications:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Required: At least 18 years of age
  • Required: Licensed with NM Board of Pharmacy
  • Required: National pharmacy technician certification (CPhT)
  • Required: Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bilingual (Fluent Spanish)
  • Preferred: Experience and/or proof of proficiency in USP <797> (i.e. Sterile Compounding Certification)
  • Preferred: Licensed with Texas State Board of Pharmacy

Physical Requirements

May require lifting over 40 lb (ex. Lifting cases of enteral formula and infusion solutions), standing for extended periods (ex. Standing at laminar air flow hood during product preparation), frequent use of computer keyboard (ex. Data entry, patient documentation, label preparations, etc.), use of latex products (ex. Clean and sterile gloves; latex injection port), moderate to high amounts of driving (extended sitting, ex. Patient deliveries.)

Job Responsibilities

In this position, you will be expected to comply with company policies related to compounding processes and patient care. You will be expected to maintain knowledge of USP chapter <797> to assure the quality, sterility, and stability of compounded sterile preparations. You will learn and utilize proper hand hygiene and garbing procedures, to include removing all jewelry, cosmetics, and outer garments prior to working within the ISO Class 7 or better environment. You will be expected to learn and use proper aseptic technique and maintain knowledge of laminar airflow theory when preparing sterile medications and solutions. You will be expected to accurately and safely prepare medications, labels, and drug compounding records. You will prepare patient supplies for dispensing, maintain and clean pharmacy work areas as directed by the pharmacy manager. As part of keeping a culture of needed continuing education, you will participate in in-service education programs and stay knowledgeable regarding current equipment and procedures. Our team will work with you to familiarize yourself with our processes and any questions that arise can be directed to the pharmacy manager or nursing personnel if uncertain regarding drugs, supplies, deliveries, or equipment. You will also assist our intake and marketing teams with new patient intake to include completion of patient forms and patient charts, communication with referral sources such as doctor's offices and hospitals via phone, email, and fax. This position will also require you to complete assigned paperwork/documentation for duties and patient care in a timely manner.

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
