GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Pharmacy has the responsibility for the implementation and coordination of drug control in the process of providing pharmaceutical care for patients of all ages within the Medical Center. Under the clinical supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician III assists pharmacists in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution, and record keeping functions in the delivery of pharmaceutical supplies to patients in accordance to department policies and guidelines.
The Pharmacy Technician III performs specialized billing, quality reporting/data analysis, prior authorization support, controlled substances, inventory purchasing, medication reconciliation/clinical support, sterile products, hazardous medication preparation, or Tech Check Tech functions contributing to essential departmental workflow and process efficiency. In addition to the principal job functions contained in the primary job descriptions, the following duties are also required in the department noted above.
1. *Participates in assisting patients with prior authorizations and/or patient assistance.
2. *Coordinates and develops the billing process for cost control of pharmaceuticals in collaboration with Pharmacy Leadership.
3. *Monitors medication and related supply pricing and reimbursement.
4. *Coordinates and provides audit processes for billing pharmaceuticals.
5. Ensures that billing requirements are processed on a regular basis and within state and federal timelines.
6. Tracks, trends and reports billing concerns; assists in providing accountability for compliance with the hospital billing practices for pharmaceuticals.
7. Assists Pharmacy Leadership in educating pharmacy staff for proper billing and credit practices.
8. Consolidates data and/or generates reports regarding medication pricing, reimbursement, and payer trends. Creates statistical reports based on Pharmacy Leadership requests concerning billing requirements and compliance preparation.
9. Coordinates medication updates and revisions on all departmental MARs.
10. Serves as a resource within the Medical Center regarding pharmacy billing practices.
11. Collaborates with other departments to ensure medication documentation aligns with medication billing and medication documentation procedure is followed.
12. Monitors medication billing for outpatient services and tracks the ordering, receiving and utilization of patients’ own medication obtained from an outside source.
13. In conjunction with Pharmacy Leadership, coordinates/supports pharmacy billing quality assurance monitoring and regulatory requirements for Bryan Medical Center Pharmacy.
14. Provides customer service support for patient concerns on billing matters and provides necessary organizational and medication information for filing claims.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum of one (1) year experience in an institutional pharmacy environment (hospital or health care facility with admitted patients) or a retail pharmacy environment required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Nebraska required. Pharmacy Technician Certification from a State of Nebraska approved certification agency required. Examples include: ptcb, ExCPT, UNMC (NE-CPhT).
