Pharmacy Technician- PRN

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician is under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist. As a pharmacy technician, you will prepare, package, document, and label drug products. Perform all required data entry and filing associated with the process and perform functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control procedures. The technician will participate in the Pharmacy Department Performance Improvement projects/programs and collect data for workload measurements as needed or required. The pharmacy technician verifies patient information while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with regulations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and interpret physician's medication orders
  • Verify the accuracy of patient information
  • Aid in filling, processing, and dispensing medications
  • Re-package and label medications
  • Adhere to safety practices in order to ensure quality care for patients
  • Help maintain the drug inventory through inventory control practices
  • Provide customer service by answering phone calls in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Deliver quality customer service to patients, responding to inquiries, questions, or requests, and referring them to the pharmacist for medical information.
  • Record medical histories while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Triage requests and prioritize them
  • Check for expiration dates on medications on a regular basis
  • Process patient insurance
  • Perform inventory audits, purchase supplies and medication.
  • Cleans and maintains supplies in the pharmacy.
  • Completes cash and insurance transactions correctly
  • Submits insurance claims and follows up on rejections

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain professional attire
  • Complete continued education/training requirements
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled
  • Wear identification while on duty
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times
  • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices
  • Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background screening
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Current Florida Pharmacy Technician registration/certification required
  • Basic mathematics skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure
  • Effective computer and keyboarding skills
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy information systems
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong prioritization skills and an ability to make decisions independently and effectively
  • Able to operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters, and cash registers
  • Prefer 2 years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting

  • Physically able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Work various shifts as required to ensure that health services are adequately administered
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds

  • Must be able to work flexible hours as assigned.
  • Must be able to work at other ACHC locations as assigned.
  • May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
