We are seeking a detail-oriented Veterinary Technician with strong customer service skills as a temporary position.
This role is responsible for reviewing external prescription requests, validating for medical appropriateness, soliciting and tracking veterinarian prescription approvals, and clearly communicating outcomes to external pharmacies to ensure timely order fulfillment. The ideal candidate brings strong veterinary medical knowledge, exceptional customer service skills, and strong attention to detail, with the ability to document thoroughly in the patient’s medical record to support tracking, compliance, and continuity of care. This person will be responsible for engaging with clients over the phone and via electronic communications to ensure their needs are met and handled in a timely manner. We’re looking for a Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join the Thrive Pet Healthcare Home Office team.

In this role, you’ll play a meaningful part in advancing our organization’s priorities and supporting our hospital teams. Your expertise will help improve processes, elevate the employee and client experience, and strengthen the operational foundation of a growing, nationwide veterinary network.

What You’ll Do
  • Navigate and assist clients with their pharmacy orders in Thrive’s online pharmacy platform, over the phone, and via email, guiding them through order placement and appointment review. Taking lead on placing orders on behalf of client, to offer white glove service, when necessary.
  • Liaise with veterinarians and pharmacy teams to verify prescriptions, determine medical eligibility, and ensure timely processing.
  • When an exam or bloodwork is needed for the request, scheduling the exam with the client on demand, as much as possible. Following up via email with online booking link, where necessary.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to incoming client calls, emails, and messages regarding veterinary pharmacy orders, prescription refills, product information, and delivery status.
  • Use your veterinary technician expertise to answer client questions related to medications, dosages, and product compatibility in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Maintain accurate medical records capturing client interactions and order statuses in Vetspire PIMS and online pharmacy platform.
  • Escalate complex or sensitive issues to appropriate teams while ensuring the client feels supported and informed.
  • Stay current with veterinary pharmaceutical products and industry protocols to provide accurate information.
  • Uphold a high standard of professionalism and empathy in every client interaction.

Key Qualifications
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT) is required.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Pharmacy Credential, preferred in addition to technician credential. Proven customer service experience in a veterinary or pharmacy environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a friendly and empathetic demeanor.
  • Ability to navigate online platforms and internal software systems comfortably.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a remote or in-office team.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, prescription protocols, medication handling guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with Vetspire PIMS is required. Knowledge of using chat, tasks, encounters, scheduling and overall medical record documentation.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with veterinary online pharmacy platforms, both client facing and hospital management portals.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
