Job Summary and Qualifications

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Adheres to all established policies and procedures in the collection and/or processing of specimens.
• Demonstrates efficiency and proficiency in the collection, handling, and processing of specimens. Able to perform a minimum of 40 venipunctures per eight-hour shift.
• Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks associated with processing and/or phlebotomy.
• Shares daily workload in the phlebotomy/processing section including outpatient areas and reception/greeting tasks.
• Prioritizes work to assure completion within the assigned shift and according to required TAT.
• Exhibits an understanding of how the processing/phlebotomy areas contribute to the overall functioning of the laboratory.
• Maintains good communication with team leaders, coworkers and customers. Respects patient confidentiality.
• Exhibits excellent customer relations in dealings with patients, visitors, physicians, hospital staff and coworkers.
• Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.
• Understands/respects laboratory billing compliance plan. Adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan. Attends Annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training.
• Initiates and documents patient teaching, including family and /or significant others. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
• Accepts on call responsibilities as needed and/or necessary.
