New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a Full-Time 40 hr./week Phlebotomist to join our Lewiston Clinic. The Phlebotomist will give top line care to a wide variety of patients dealing with cancer and blood disorders. Duties include phlebotomy, ability to collect samples using a variety of techniques, monitoring lab results as needed, scheduling follow-up lab appointments, entering and accessing patient information from the EMR, , inventorying, and managing supplies. The Phlebotomist is a vital member of the NECS care model and is often the first clinician that patients see during an appointment.
NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from five separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire. . Job Duties:
- Collects various blood samples using a variety of techniques including venipuncture in the antecubital region of the arm and smaller veins of the hand and wrist.

Assesses each patient's vein structure and selects the appropriate needle size and equipment needed for a successful phlebotomy experience.

Uses professional judgement and follows all practice HIPAA guidelines.

Assisting patients in the lab area by filling lab prescriptions, reviewing labs being drawn, providing information on tests and what they accomplish and why they are needed.

Assist physicians and lab staff with procedures as needed.
Monday-Friday work week, no nights.
Weekends: None
Travel: Rare
Experience and Skills:
Phlebotomist Qualifications

Must have a degree or certificate in Phlebotomy from an accredited program.
- Must have proven strong phlebotomy skills.

Experience with and ability to understand patient medical records, physician's orders and medical orders.

Understand and conduct yourself in accordance with accepted clinical standards and the ability to maintain strict HIPPA compliance.

High level of computer skills and experience with electronic medical records (EMR's) is required.

Ability to communicate with patients, family members, co-workers, and providers in an effective and compassionate way.

Must have high level oral and written communication skills, typing skills are required.
