Gonino Center for Healing is searching for a dependable, outgoing individual who enjoys working with the public to fill a key position in our organization. The Intravenous (IV) Therapist administers medications and nutrients via IV to patients for the following reasons, including but not limited to: varying health conditions, symptoms, disease prevention and health maintenance, who can also put their efforts into being cross trained on the medical floor as a medical assistant.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior phlebotomy experience in medical office or hospital setting is preferred
- Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency or a Medical Assistant certification through one of the following: The American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists Association, the National Association for Health Professionals, the National Center for Competency Testing, the National Healthcare Association or American Allied Health is preferred
- Knowledge of safety and infection control standards

JOB DUTIES
- Daily interaction with patients and sense of ownership, which will be essential
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the patient during the venipuncture process and throughout the duration of infusion
- Ensures the patient receives the correct dosage of medication or fluid
- Monitors the patient for any reactions and ensures the IV stays in place
- Perform blood collections by venipuncture techniques
- Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis
- Performs Vitals on patients
- Can pivotto the medical assistant floor for back up needs
- Ensures effective patient communication and efficient patient flow. Documents patient care accurately and timely
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential
- Works and communicates effectively with all providers and the entire Gonino Center for Healing staff. Promotes teamwork.
- Provides great customer service in person and on the telephone
- Escorts or transports patients to exam rooms, microscopy room, checkout areas or other areas as directed
- Documents completion of patient care tasks in medical records, and reinforces education provided by the physician or nurse practitioner seeking assistance from the nurse practitioner or physician as appropriate. Confirms appropriate patient consent and authorization forms are signed for medical treatment(s)
- May perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties, such as, scheduling patient appointments, lab calls, heavy metal testing follow up calls, reports, etc.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations including HIPPA and OSHA
- Comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety
- Exhibits effective office space cleanliness
- Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning. Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area
- Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical equipment; performs procedures of low complexity such as visual acuity, development and/or musculoskeletal screening, POC testing, phlebotomy, EKG testing, and other approved clinic specific diagnostic testing
- Competently assists providers to maximize patient volume, administers medications, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and returns patient calls in a timely manner
- Ensures effective patient communication and efficient patient flow. Documents patient care accurately and timely
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential
- Works and communicates effectively with all providers. Promotes teamwork. Provides great customer service in person and on the telephone
- Escorts or transports patients to exam rooms or other areas as directed

- Assists in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of needed patient information, such as results of diagnostic exams and medical records
- May perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties, such as, scheduling patient appointments, lab calls, RX call-ins and refills, etc.
- May provide occasional working supervision to non-licensed medical and/or clerical office support personnel for clerical functions or other non-clinical activities
- Researching and communicating with compounding pharmacies in regard to new IV therapies
- Demonstrates professionalism by articulating and demonstrating professional behavior, accepting responsibility and accountability for actions, adhering to policies and procedures, demonstrating leadership and supporting Gonino Center for Healing initiatives
- Serves and protects the physician and Gonino Center for Healing by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements
- Enhances Gonino Center for Healing’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Other duties as assigned
